This sucks. My external hard drive failed yesterday. Well I think it was the power supply for the enclosure and not the drive itself. Of course this is just a backup of old files or so I thought. I broke out into a cold sweat when I realized that 4 + years worth of family photos resided on this drive. The originals sit on a hard drive that a pulled out of an old machine before I trashed it. So now I have two hard drives sitting on a desk waiting to be rescued. I really hope it was just the power supply on that enclosure. Another one is on the way to rescue me. At least I had the best shots developed. …To be continued…

So here is my latest online dilemma. I want to use either Flickr or Picasa to share photos. So where is the dilemma you ask? Well, I draw a fine line between public and personal. I am perfectly willing to share pictures that don’t contain my family and friends with anyone. The others, I like to keep for myself and share with a select few. The problem is that I can’t figure out how to do this. It seems like a simple task particularly now that WiFi enabled digital picture frames are becoming more prevalent. So the question for everyone on the Internets is how do I get my Dad a cool new frame and subscribe him to my RSS without sharing to the whole word?

It has come to my attention that technology is passing me by. If you’re reading this, you must be thinking it’s a blog, of course he gets it. The truth is that I don’t. Online social networking is bizarre. Take my Facebook page for example. I signed up only because a co-worker wanted me to see the Wal-Mart page. That is silly in and of itself, but it snowballs from there. I get an invitation from a guy I went to high school with a long time ago. We knew each other in passing, but hardly friends. Yet he wants to friend me online. I didn’t want to be the anti-social social networker so I accepted. Who knows, maybe we’ll have something in common this time around.
